Bank collapse is one of the most important problem to study in flood control and reduction .The bottom of the slope is scoured and then the others collapse into the river.The flow goes on destroying the existing bank forcing the embankment to move back. Erosion and deposition make some rivers instable .The phenomenon of bank collapse is still general and serious.there are two kinds of measures:making the river steady and controlling the flow of groundwater. Geocontainers are relatively new engineering systems.The technology can prevent the bank from water effectively and make the river steady to improve the safety of the embankment. Geocontainers are cost competitive for large project and stable in structure compare to the traditional protecting methods in coast protecting projects.In this paper, the effects of geocontainers on the protected dyke of mahu under the changing water levels are studied by FLAC3D.The main work this paper do are these like below:1, This paper introduced The mechanism of bank collapse and reviewed the prediction methods for bank protection,and the study of geocontainer at home and abroad.2, Model tests are performed on a scale of 1:60 in the broad rectangular trough. Through experiments of dumping geocontainers in the floating water ,some settling characteristics of settling distance under the condition of different velocity and depth of the water are studied From the experiment datas and the dimensions of physical quantities ,formulae are derived,and the results will be guide for the construction of geocontainers.3, FLAC3D is a three-dimensional explicit finite-difference program,and the chapters involved in the paper is introduced.4, The engineering example is analyzed .The effects of geocontainers on the protected dyke of mahu under the changing water levels are studied by FLAC3D. Numerical simulation models are build.The vertical and horizontal displacements, principal stresses ,block states , shear stress rate, safety factor of reduced strength (Fos) of the dyke are analysed before and after taking the measure of geocontainer technology at the bottom of the slope are analysed and compared.These results show the geocontainer technology can improve the safety of the slope largely and the collapse can be avoided.
