The Changzhou new sluice located in the South of Jing-hang canal is a key project in Jiangsu province. It is also the largest floating-sluice in Asia, which includes a regulator with 60 m of the span of sluice opening, caisson abutment wall, underwater concrete floor of barrage and so on.In this paper, the design and underwater construction of the large floating-sluice have been studied. The research includes design of the floating camel gate, design of the anti-seepage system beneath the floor of barrage and underwater concrete construction technology and so on. This project has been now completed. It began operation in 2004. Some results have been obtained as follows:(l)The stability in sinking and floating of the floating camel has been solved. It can be used to control the flood by using the flash-board above the floating camel.(2)It is successful to combine the manufacturing of ship and traditional sluice gate together. It not only solved fabrication of the large floating camel, but also satisfied the normal requirement of the steel gate.(3)The technology of underwater construction has been used in the construction of the floor of barrage, which includes underwater concreting thickness, the fixed position of underwater form and reinforcing net in reinforced concrete floor, and the quantity control of underwater concreting elevation.The application of large floating sluice successfully solved the antinomy between navigation and flood control. It can be widely used in hydraulic engineering.
