Concrete cracks accompany the reinforced concrete structures when the concrete material comes into use in engineering. With the development of social economy, people's demand for aesthetics and function of building is growing, thus, a large amount of overlong structure has been built all across country. The key research aspects of these structures focus on how to deal with the concrete cracking due to the thermal action and concrete shrinkage. Basing on a real engineering project, in this thesis, the nonlinear effect of external wall of an overlong concrete structure with semi-basement is studied through theoretical analysis and finite element solving.Based on available theories and practical experience, the factors that affect the overlong structure such as environmental temperature variation, concrete shrinkage and creep is studied firstly; then in order to simulate the cracking process of the wall, the concrete smeared cracking model is taken into the nonlinear finite element analysis using ANSYS software, and the solution show the stress distribution in the wall.Compared with the linear elastic analysis, the results of nonlinear analysis is more reasonable, the tension stress is not as high as that in linear analysis, indicating that the linear solution in engineering currently is far higher than the real stress distribution in the structure.
