In this paper, the wind-induced vibrations of tall buildings, developments of structural vibration control theories, and wind-induced vibration control technologies of tall buildings are firstly introduced briefly. Subsequently, based on the current Chinese wind load codes, the motion equations of the tall building-active tuned mass damper (ATMD)/active multiple tuned mass dampers (AMTMD) systems are established. The criterion for searching the optimum parameters of the ATMD/AMTMD is defined as the minimization of the variance of displacement or acceleration response of the structure with the ATMD/AMTMD. The criterion used to evaluate the effectiveness of the ATMD/AMTMD is the ratio of the minimum displacement or acceleration variance of the structure with the ATMD/AMTMD to the displacement or acceleration variance of the structure without the ATMD/AMTMD (referred respectively to as displacement or acceleration vibration reduction factors). With resorting to the aforementioned criteria, in the frequency domain, the influences have been investigated of the parameters, such as the natural frequency, normalized acceleration feedback gain factor, mass ratio, on the optimum parameters (i.e. optimum frequency ratio, damping ratio and frequency spacing), control effectiveness and stroke of the ATMD/AMTMD. In order to further validate the effectiveness of the ATMD/AMTMD for the control of wind-induced vibrations of tall buildings in time-domain, the state space equations of the tall building-ATMD/AMTMD systems then are formulated in the present paper. Using the simulated wind load time history, SIMULINK analysis has been implemented to a selected tall building with the ATMD/AMTMD. The...
