Structural vibration control technology as a positive and effective countermeasures to resist wind loading and seismic action, has become one of the hot spot in civil engineering research. TMD/AMD are gradually applied in civil engineering building structures for its effective structure vibration control approach. TMD is proved effective to attenuate vibration of structure in high-rise buildings and towers under strong wind loading,however, in the case of seismic action the control effect of TMD is not significant.This limits wide application of TMD in civil engineering.For AMD,there are still some deficiency and the difficulties waiting to be solved in the fields of optimization design, theoretical calculation methods, dynamic reliability performance. After reviewed the structural vibration control development history, present situation and future trends in traditional tuned mass damper are summarized and some improved methods are proposed aimed at the shortcomings and difficulties in the aspects of AMD optimization design in this paper.The major research work of this thesis is as follows:1) The thesis analyzes the influence of TMD parameters on structural energy response including structure kinetic energy and deformation potential energy based on the basic theories of TMD and the basic principle of energy method.Differences between energy optimization design and traditional optimization design are summarized.2) Theoretical research is carried out aimed at four new tuned mass damper namely Variable Friction TMD, Variable Damping TMD,Tuned Mass Friction Damper and Tuned Mass Nonlinear Viscous Damper. Parameter analysis of the four new tuned dampers are done in different load exitation and the control effect is tstified.3) In-situ field tests of a new HMD system motor applied in Canton Tower is carried out.Through numerical fitting of in-situ field test data,friction and ripple thrust formulas are developed,which matches very well with the test data.The time-delay of linear induction motor is analyzed through sending force commands to the motor.4) A new optimization design namely optimization design of TMD and AMD based on performance analysis is put forward. The operation process is as follows. firstly, to define a control target by the owner. Secondly, to select a set of parameters to make sure the effect meet the requirement.Finally, this thesis makes a brief summary of the above research, and points out the direction for further research and things needed to be done.
