In the context of power market, Available Transfer Capability (ATC) is an important index of the further usable amount of transmission capacity for commercial trading. The application of online available transfer capability is significant to system safety and commercial trading. In this dissertation, we propose practical methods to calculate ATC fast and efficient. The main contribution of the paper is focused on three aspects:First,a fast method is proposed to enhance linear ATC calculations. It is modeled between DC and AC power flow. It encourage the existing linear ATC calculations by considering the influence of voltage and reactive power flow. The method can be easily integrated into existing linear ATC software and can calculate ATC fast and accurate.Second, a fast method satisfies the contingency of voltage security is presented based on the model of AC power flow. Continuation power flow (CPF) is used in the method to find the approximate nose point. curve-fitting technique and sensitivity factors helps to make contingency ranking more efficient. Finally, a method of calculating ATC and the exploration of the first order sensitivities of certain power system network variables are described. The sensitivities can be used not only to get ATC but also to help control ATC and eliminate congestion. CPF is used in the method to give initial values to calculate the sensitivity.
