The optimal control of the circulation pump station has important significance to the safety and economy operation of the power plant. A new approach is proposed in this work to solve the poor efficiency and related control problems in circulating pump system. Variable frequency governing technique is applied in the circulation pump system and constant speed pump is replaced by variable speed pump. By the analysis of the pumps property and the high efficiency operation range limitation of the pumps, the mathematical model for the efficiency optimization of the pumps station is established based on the minimum shaft power ,and genetic algorithm (GA) is introduced to seek the solution of the optimal strategy. Finally, a project scheme is worked out based on the analysis of the circulation pump system. The economic efficiency analysis shows that the application of variable frequency governing technique and the optimization of control system has significant efficiency in power saving. Moreover, several problems in circulating pump system are solved.
