This paper describes the study of the AC system stability effected by the UHVDC transmission lines from Xi Luodu to Hunan power grid which is the first period of Jin Shajiang project. Fundamental network data around 2015 which includes the ultra high AC network and Mid-China power grid is established. Based on the power flow analysis, the author gives the main UHVDC circuit parameters and control system models. The author also investigates the effect of load characteristic to short circuit capacity, and works out a more precise SCR for each bus on 500kV in 2015 based on the UHVDC rated transmission power. The location of inverter station has been conformed according to the SCR. The maximum UHVDC transfer capacity is also studied in the paper to ensure the feasibility of the rated UHVDC capacity. By simulation of different typical system AC, DC faults, the system transient scenarios have been illustrated and necessary measurements to ensure system stability have been proposed in the paper.
