Wind power generation is developing rapidly in the world wide. It is important to study the dynamic response characteristics of wind power generators in the case of fault in power network to assure secure and reliable operation of wind farm. At present, the most widely used wind power generators are squirrel-cage induction generator (SCIG) and doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). The dissertation analyzes the transient characteristics of the two type generators systematically. For SCIG, the principle of transient stability is analyzed. The physical phenomena of losing stability are explained. The components and calculation of fault currents are discussed. For DFIG, its model is established based on the analysis of its working principle. The transient characteristics of DFIG are simulated and discussed in the case of fault in network. Stator and rotor fault currents are analyzed. Finally, according to the characteristics of fault currents of wind power generators, their effects on relay protection in network are discussed.
