Construction mortar is one of the materials of largest consumption and widest purposes in civil engineering. Currently, the mineral materials constituting 80% of the construction mortar by volume are extracted from natural sand. It not only seriously destroys natural landscape and natural ecology, but also fastens the consumption of resources and energies, confronting human with resource depletion and energy crisis. Therefore, to seek a proper material to replace of nature sand will save irreproducible natural resources as well as realize sustainable development of natural resources. Obviously, it's of significant meanings to research and development of environmental construction materials. With the development of industry, human's demand for steel is also on the rise. Whereupon it brings large quantity steel slag and takes up abundant land and causes a lot of environmental pollution. So, it needs to make comprehensive use of steel slag to recycle waste into valuable resources.Through analysis of the component and structure of converter slag of Shaanxi Longmen Iron & Steel (Group) Enterprise Co., Ltd, this paper selects different substitute proportion of steel slag content to sand to make quantity test and research on physical and mechanical performance and durability of confected steel slag mortar along with consideration of impact of fly ash content on its function, and analyzes the micro structure of hardened mortar with an electronic microscope. The test result shows that by utilization of local steel slag, sand, fly ash and cement of Shaanxi and with appropriate mix design, the steel slag mortar confected with two volumes of steel and three volumes of sand meets all requirements on each performance. The test approves the mortar's microstructure conform to its macro performance. Therefore, the application of this research result in practical engineering will bring well economic, social and environmental benefits.
