Study On Conservation By KaiTong Alley In Xi'An

While the conservation of historical cultural cities has been deepened, Xi'an government carried on the project of traditional dwellings protection in 2006. And KaiTong Alley is protected as a key district.KaiTong Alley is a residential alley which formed when Ming City Wall was moved towards east. Now it is an organic constituent of Xi'an Forest of Steles historic culture district, and seven traditional dwellings in this alley were brought into the list of important projects that should be protected. Hundreds of years passed, KaiTong Alley formed its own pattern skin texture and space scale, and the central courtyard and historical architecture with clear system and bright characteristic are the typical representative of Xi'an dwellings. However, in the modernization process of the city, this district was destroyed badly, and there is much challenge in its development process. So the protection work is an urgent need.On the base of research of literature and investigation of the present situation, this dissertation makes a value assessment for KaiTong Alley's historical research firstly; then deeply analyses the dominant matter space shape and the recessive housing life shape in order to give the assessment of present situation, management and utilization; then proposes the main present problems of this district; at last, under the instruction of the international advanced protection idea, discusses the approach to the protection and utilization of this district. The dissertation proposes the protection content in matter and housing culture. It also gives the goal, the principle and the methods of protection work, from the whole structure and the appearance controlling to the courtyard protection according to different type and grade, and then to living form. On this base, it also carries on the protection and renewal plan design, in order to make the protection of the KaiTong Alley district develop healthily for long time.
