The hollow flange beam (HFB) is a unique cold-formed and resistance-welded section developed in Australia for use as a flexural member. Recently, Rectangular Tube Hollow Flange Beams (RHFB) is presented by a master of HIT. By further studying all correlative aspects of HFB and RHFB, the author consciously presents a type of hollow flange beam with new cross section (LHFB). The LHFB is manufactured from a rectangular tube and two strips of steel using electric resistance welding. In this dissertation, the buckling capacity and behavior of LHFB under three different loads are analyzed respectively by the finite element software ANSYS. The main contents of this dissertation are listed as follows:(1) Finite element analytical model of LHFB is constructed, and its accuracy is verified.(2) The merits and demerits of LHFB are analyzed by comparing the relative flexural capacity of LHFB with HFB and RHFB.(3) The elastic buckling capacity of LHFB is analyzed, and the effects of the span length on the buckling modes of LHFB are analyzed. The buckling modes of LHFB include local buckling, lateral distortional buckling and lateral flexural-torsional buckling.(4) Nonlinear buckling analysis of LHFB is made to obtain the ultimate capacity, and a modified design method for LHFB is proposed based on Trahair's method.(5) An investigation is carried out into the use of transverse web stiffeners to improve ultimate capacity of LHFB .(6) Parametric analysis of RHFB is made. The effects of main geometry's parameters on the ultimate capacity of LHFB are analyzed.
