Fatigue strength is one of important factors that decide the reliability and life of machinery. So it is studied widely world-wide and fatigue design is developed, which is used widely in aviation, automobile, ship field and so on in these countries. With the trend of machinery to high temperature, high speed, large size, the stress is higher. Thus many developed countries pay more attention to study and design of fatigue strength ,and develop a variety of software which is used in design of mechanical product.Some domestic colleges and institutes have studied fatigue design, which is applied in the design of plane and military vehicle. Fatigue design also plays a important role in miniaturization and lightened weight of transmission in vehicle. But because of lack of understanding of fatigue design and some basic data such as Road Load Data and material S-N curves, many domestic manual transmission designers don't apply fatigue design in their product.Fatigue design is used in a manual transmission in this paper, and the main results are listed as following:1.Gear ratio is optimized in simulation software ADVISOR by the quadrature design method.2.Acquisition system is designed in order to collect Road Load Data.3.Road Load Data is acquired, and then analyzed and transferred to duty cycles for transmission design.4.After gear fatigue test is carried out, the result data are processed and the gear material S-N curves formed.5.Designing a new manual transmission in fatigue design software.6.The new manual transmissions are tested on test rig.
