Integrated automation of substation, automation of distributed power system and automation of dispatch for power system are the main content of realizing automation and even intelligence for the production and management of power system, in which switching system is indispensably. Some systems have been applied to some of dispatching centers, substations and power plants. However, there still exists some defects, such as low level of versatility and intelligence, unfriendly interface and so on. So developing a switching system owning safety assurance, high intelligence and versatility is very significant and useful in theory and practice. Main achievements of this thesis are as following:Facing the issue of long time taken to develop and maintain a graphic system by the traditional Object-Oriented method, a new Graphic Object-Oriented method is presented and implemented based on the Visual Graph. Using the new method to develop the graphic system of power system, it can greatly reduce the work quantity, difficulty and time for development and maintenance. Then a new algorithm for topology analysis of power system is presented based on the graphic modeling. In the new algorithm, with the help of the connection relationship of the components, identifying the electrified components and branches type, merging the impedance-free components, and numbering the nodes and subnets can be done only by one ransacking, which owns high efficiency.Based on the graphic system above, a PC switching system employed operation rules for interlocking is implemented. Facing the inherent issue of this switching system, such as low intelligent degree, insensitive to the aim of user's operation, a new automatic switching method is presented further by the reasoning of rules. After the operation aim required only is presented, with the help of and/or tree, it could realize the transformation of the status of the specific devices from initial status to goal status by building the rule tree, decomposing it into the scheme trees, selecting the best scheme and extracting the optimal operation series. The outstanding advantages of the method are the correctness of the operation series and the good compatibility with the switching system based on the operation rule. It owns the potential to be applied to the practice widely.The graphic system has been applied in EMS of Tianjin Electric Power Corporation. The switching system has been added to the DTS developed by Chinese Electric Power Research Institute and been applied at Tianjin Taida Environment Protecting Plant. All of them are running normally for a period, which proves the correctness of the work of the thesis.
