Abstract: The main bridge of Sutong Yangtze Bridge under construction is a cable-stayed bridge of double pylons and cable planes with main span of 1088m, which will be the longest span cable-stayed bridge in the world after completion. Since most construction control experience regarding cable-stayed bridge mainly focused on comparatively medium span bridges before, there is little experience and research on construction control of extra-long span cable-stayed bridge for reference. In China, most popular construction control methodology for cable-stayed bridges is emphasized on structural internal force during erection, while geometric control research has never been performed. In order to promote the theoretical and implementary development of construction control methodology for long span cable-stayed bridges, this dissertation introduces the principle of geometric control methodology and detailed application in construction of Sutong Bridge. It also makes assessment on the geometric control results derived from cantilever construction of Sutong Bridge and presents some constructive suggestions for further application of geometric control methodology in erection of cable-stayed bridges.
