The spray nozzle is an important component of torpedo engine. The characteristic of nozzle has important effect to efficiency and stability of combustion. So it is indispensable to investigate the characteristic of spray nozzle. The experiment study of nozzle spray field has been conducted, but the numerical study hasn't ever been carried out at present in torpedo industry.This paper presents numerical and experiment study of spray characteristic in a swirl nozzle of torpedo. A numerical simulation has been conducted for 3-D spray flow in swirl nozzle using FLUENT software. The change rule of Sauter Mean Diameter(SMD) and Droplet Spread Parameter are investigated along with pressure drop of nozzle in different flux. An increase in pressure difference produces a decrease in SMD, an increase in Droplet Spread Parameter. But the change range of parameters is different in different condition. The relationship between SMD and pressure difference is approximate to SMD (?) â–³P-0.9. The increase of Droplet Spread Parameter indicates uniformity of liquid-drop dimension distribution according to decrease in SMD.In the experimental research, the characteristic of flux and spraying were studied on nozzle spray experiment platform. The relationship between pressure difference of atomizer and mass flow rate was investigated in experiment of flux. The result indicates an increase in pressure difference produces an increase in mass flow rate. The range of Sauter Mean Diameter is decided in spraying experiment.Comparison of the numerical result and experimental result of SMD show excellent agreement.
