The image quality of digital camera is influenced by the lens, sensor, file formats, aperture and exposure time etc, i.e., different colors will be produced by digital camera when different parameters are setting. However, the color constancy is required in application of industry, so digital camera color management is necessary. The purpose is to study color management technology of camera and its practice.The characterization model was selected by using spectral radiometer and standard light source according to the imaging principle of digital camera and the color management technology, which was used to create color look-up table (CLUT) based profile. And then, a color management soft-ware for digital color camera was designed and applied to practice, which was the research result of color management theory.Experiments were accomplished by using three digital cameras under two standard light sources. The polynomial models mapping color from RGB to XYZ and L~*a~*b~* color space were established to study the colorimetric characterization of digital camera. The effects of target color space, terms of polynomial, training numbers, lightness, chroma and hue on the model accuracy were analyzed; According to the result of characterization and ICC specification, the camera profile was built and a color management soft-ware which could create and evaluate ICC profile was developed. The software was evaluated by visual observation and comparing with the similar software.The results indicate: the 20 terms polynomial has been chosen from the characterization models to make color transformation, whose average color difference is less than 3 when transforming colors and precision is not influenced by lightness, chroma and hue. A color management soft-ware for digital camera software has been designed using VC++, the color difference derived from the color space transformation using the profile generated by the soft-ware is 4~6 color difference units less than that from the software Profile Maker 5.0.
