| With the steady development of international economy and international trade, containerized transport will increase by a large margin in the future. The market demand of containerized transport is increasing constantly; the maximization trend of the container ship is obvious. Container ship maximization has all brought enormous influence on the liner Ship Company and container port. In the face of the fierce competitive market, the company's constant increase the scale of container ship, in the hope of getting the scale effect of shipping maximization, occupying the advantage position in the market competition.With the strengthening of the international economic communications and the development of the international trade and navigational technology, the enlargement trend of the container ship is getting more obvious. The number of the ultra-large container ships is growing daily. Driven by the scale economic effects, the trend of enlargement and ultra- enlargement of the container ships has been receiving wide attention of the shipping field.The thesis introduces the progress and current situation of the container ship enlargement, make a detailed analysis of the global economic situation and container shipping market, predicts the total volume of the international container transportation and further analyzes the factors influencing the trend of the enlargement of the containerships.Based on the analysis of the container liners' marine transportation costs which are related with the scale of the container ships, by dividing the costs into two parts: daily fixed costs per TEU and shipping costs per TEU per mile, this paper calculates the different costs per TEU on the conditions of different lines, different ship scales and different loading/unloading efficiency. Analyzes the advantage of the scale economic effects of the containerships enlargement to construct calculating the cost of container shipping and makes conclusions model for through evaluating the results of the model.
