Safety is the most important issue in the domain of marine, and also, it is the ultimate requirement for all kinds of ships. Presently, the "YUKUN" vessel, which is built as the teaching-training vessel for DaLian Maritime University, will be put into using. For the purpose of keeping the vessel running safely and accomplishing the teaching- training assignment completely, this thesis assesses the safety and reliability of the fuel oil system in the main engine of "YUKUN" vessel by the methods of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis(FMEA) and Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation. These may give some advice on everyday's maintenance and management of the system.Firstly, this thesis analyses the feasibility of using FMEA method on the safety assessment of the fuel oil system in marine main engine, introduces the general condition of the training vessel and the fuel oil system in the main engine of it, explains the basic theory of reliability and Formal Safety Assessment(FSA), and then introduces FMEA method and Risk Priority Number method, which is the core of FMEA, in detail.Secondly, this thesis assesses the reliability of the fuel oil system by FMEA. Specifies the boundary before actualizing FMEA, summarizes the failure modes of the system, lists FMEA tables, gains relevant values by investigating, and then figures out the RPN values for every failure modes, so as to get the sequence of the criticality of each failure. According to the sequence, gives out some measures and advice for the parts (such as: fuel valve,duplex filter and high pressure pipe) which have higher RPN values, hopes that these could help engineers to maintain and manage the fuel oil system more conveniently and efficiently.In succession, for the sake of making the results of FMEA more accurately, this thesis sets up the risk decision model of Fuzzy-FMEA, assesses the overall reliability of the fuel oil system further more.
