Indigenous Production Design In Early 20th Century

Here in this article, through classification and reflection I would like to discuss the designing character and method of indigenous production design in early 20th century, and also its reference and inspiration to modern designing. As the result, some instructive ideas could be put forward on Chinese Native Industry and industrial production design. In this article, early 20th century indigenous lamps and lanterns design, transportation vehicles design, commodities and furniture design, entertainment production design, chemical industry and machinery design etc. are reviewed and analyzed respectively. Conclusions are drawn that the folk production design of our country's in early 20th century has the following character: much attention were paid to the choice of natural material, manual production and the abundance of connotation of alien culture, etc. During the same period, the industrial production design shows the character of active introduction of western technology, transition from imitation to creation, assimilation of foreign countries designing experience and adoption of international popular style etc. After more than 20years'implementing reform and opening policy in China, various manufacturing industries develop together and various designing methods stand side-by-side, which background is quite similar to that of early 20th century. The research of neoteric and modern designing would be of great significance to the inheriting and developing of traditional designing and to the search of sound living-style and excellent native designing culture. During nowadays practice of design, we should inherit the spirit of Chinese traditional design, improve the level of indigenous production design and carry over the features of Chinese traditional techniques and actively introduce advanced technology. We should design our own production which has its own superiority by studying the experience of foreign designing, adjusting measures to local conditions and exploitation of the characters of native material and processing, etc.
