Study On The Development Of Interior Design In China During 20～(th) Century

It should be an exciting and inspiring moment when we look back the development history of the China's interior design profession in the 20th century. During the very short 100 years' period in the 20th century, China's interior design profession has experienced growing out of nothing, expanding from small to large and has developed and expanded rapidly to a comparatively enormous scale of professional up to now. The physical products transformed through design cater for almost all the city dwellers. These products have become their interest that they are eager to gain the material and spiritual comforts. The social demands brought along by the massive scale of people have become a powerful driving force for the development of the profession. And the modern science and technology have become the foundation of the development of the profession. It spurs the progress and grandness of the design profession that in turn meets human demands as the final goal. Running through the contents of the whole thesis is the evolvement of China's interior design in the 20 century and the research and unscrambling on these evolvement processes. The outcome helps us to seize the opportunity in the new era of 21st century as to promote a healthy development of interior design profession in China.The first part of the thesis is historical point of view. It is the introductory part of the thesis. It takes the significance of the task research as the starting point, and discusses the subjects such as space and decoration, design and construction, the variety of the interior essential factors etc. It also makes a diagrammatic explanation on the variety of the essential factors. And then expounds the method of the task research. Finally, it makes an analysis on the in point spheres related to the task research, such as the ideological sphere, the substantial sphere, the cultural sphere and the in point subjects.The second part of the thesis is historical exposition. It is the principal part of the thesis. At first, it gives an exposition on the development of China's interior design by stages in the 20th century. It points out that the development has experienced its budding stage (1900-1953), stagnant stage (1953-1977) and pursuant stage (1977-1999). At the budding stage, the interior design completely relied on the architectural design. And at the stagnant stage, the interior design began separating from the architectural design. At the pursuant stage, the interior design stood alone thoroughly. Then it makes, a detailed exposition on the evolution of the interior design at three stages with different historical background.The architecture and interior design during the period from 1900 to 1953 had experienced several stages of development: DThe influx of western classical architecture and the interior design works into China. Both Chinese and foreign architects devoted themselves a plentiful exploration on Chinese modern architecture and interior design and created plenty of influentialworks. D The modern architecture and the interior design works came into being in China. At this stage, the main characteristics of the development of architecture and interior design are as follows: a) The construction mode differing from China's traditional architecture and interior design appeared largely in China, b) Architecture and interior design emerged with abundant forms while striding to modernism, c) Architects were responsible for all external and internal design work.The interior design had gone through several stages of development from the period 1953 to 1977: Because of the intervention of politics, the development of Chinese architecture and the interior design broke away from modernistic architecture movement, hoping to find one's own way, but the result is unsuccessful; DThe design and construction for "ten major buildings" brought the brilliance in the construction history of China; D During the period of Cultural Revolution, the development of Chinese architecture and interior design had stagnated basically.
