Cluster Design-A Design Strategy Of The Central Campus Zone

With the coming of information society and era of knowledge economy, together with the profound reform of advanced education system and theory, universities of our country are welcoming a new period of high-speed development which we have never come across before. The central zone of university campus is meant to be the heart district of the three centers of structure, function and environment image. In the recent theory of campus planning of functionism, it is usually situated in the teaching district, which plays an important role in the whole campus. As a result, it's of significant reality at the present days.As a method of design, cluster-structure emphasized the inter lever between planning and architecture design, which is called the level of urban design. In the practice of central zone of campus, cluster-structure became one of the most practical and excellent way of solving the existing problems of campus planning, benefit from the original gift of its own.In this article, efforts are made to collect, analyze the material of typical central zone of campus, in order to make conclusion of the form and levels of space of the central zone. Then, design strategies are proposed to explore the formation of main concept, space system and architecture language. At last, examples of practical projects are given out to carry out the whole process of the proposed design method of cluster-structure.
