With the rapid development of Intelligent Traffic System(ITS), the traffic simulation of ITS is being paid great attention extensively all over the world. There are defects in the mechanisms of traditional traffic simulation systems in managing traffic and road information , but another rising technology-geographical information system(GIS), with strong abilities in information management and information visualization, are supposed to assist traffic simulation. This thesis mainly integrates traffic simuation system and GIS in order to strengthen the capability of the traffic simuation. The thesis focuses on urban traffic system's integrants and traffic behavior, and develops an urban microscopic simulation system which adapts to Chinese taffic.Firstly, in order to describe the real figures of the road network, the thesis establishes GIS-based traffic road networks model which combines the strong ability of GIS's data memory management, and designs a database of GIS for traffic simulation purpose. The GIS-based traffic road networks model can draw road networks automatically which is being simulated cover on the same part of the city according to the customer's demands. The GIS-based traffic road networks model can improve the precision of simulation results which can help the real-time simulation.Secondly, the thesis uses the Agent technologies to model Urban Microscopic Traffic Simulation System. In this system, road, crossing, vehicle, and traffic light are regarded as intelligent agent, the thesis discusses the main architecture and property of the four simulation objects. Then, in term of the latest research achievements in vehicle behavior model, the thesis focuses on the research of vehicle behavior model. The thesis establishes free-driving model, car-following model,and lane-changing model of moving vehicles. According to the deficiencies of present research, the thesis puts forward anti-collision control model which aims at solving the traffic simulation question of the car driving behavior on the crossing.Thirdly, the thesis analyses the whole system's structure and flow. Furthermore, an Urban Microscopic Traffic Simulation System is developed using Java. The system concludes: GIS-based traffic road networks module, vehicle generation module, vehicle module, and data analysing model. This system can be more flexible, extendable, and ultimately reusable.Finally, the thesis analyses an instance using the urban traffic simulation system. The instance simulation result verifies that our urban traffic simulation system level is feasible. The system can simulate many traffic flows in reality. And the urban traffic simulation system could assist traffic control decision.
