| This paper is directed against the situation of lacking microcosmic study on urban spatial structure, analyzing urban spatial structure quantitatively by combining the technology of Gis, theory of urban planning and actual situation of LanZhou, using the method of geographic concentration. After quantitative and qualitative analysis, several adjusting suggestions are put forward.The data of urban spatial structure which is 1:50000 and the latest basic unit survey data are combined in the utility of the improved M' function for measuring the geographic concentration of each manufacturing industry and industrial chain. The improved M' function of geographic concentration, adding the parameter of the number of firms according to the definition of geographic concentration of industries, can reflect the actual situation more accurately. The evaluation results imply some problems of the distribution of manufacturing industry: (1) most parts of the preponderant concentrated industries are the same which lack of independent characteristics; (2) the distribution of productivity between the city zone and outskirt are imbalance; (3) the proportion of conventional industries are too high which lead to the deficiency of competition force; (4) most main sections are situated in the front of the industrial chains which make difficulties in promoting the entire rank of industrial chains.Investigations and researches were made on the basis evaluation results for supplement. After symmetrical investigation, four countermeasures are putted forward: (1) locating the industrial enterprises in Lanzhou area in properly way, in order to form independent characteristic industries of different parts; (2) dispersing several highly concentrated industrial enterprises in urban area; (3) boosting up the competition force of industries through upgrading the distribution hierarchy of conventional industries. (4) promoting the development of main industry group and bettering industrial chain by constructing main focused areas of industries, in order to optimize the structure of industries and urban special structure. Finally, future spatial incidence of the petrochemical industrial chain is put forward, which provide quantitative measuring method for other industrial chains.Through these countermeasures, the main developing subjects will be fixed: adjusting the distribution of the main manufacturing industry and rationalizing the land use of LanZhou, in order to achieve the destination of optimizing urban spatial structure.
