An Approach To Ideas And Works Of The Dutch Architecture Office MVRDV

MVRDV directs to construct the future development of architecture, and it represents the breakthrough and the innovation to the actuality. MVRDV insists that the development direction of architecture depend on the social development, and it is the society that decides the development way. If you want to dig out the hidden factors behind, you must depend on a great deal of theory researches. MVRDV regards a creation of architecture work as an iceberg, and we can clearly see the top part, but its ambulation regulations underneath are hard to catch. Only by observing the submerged part underwater can we truly understand what the rules are. Nowadays, in the informative society, the relation between architecture and society becomes the decisive factor to the development of architecture. MVRDV sharply studies the changes undergoing in the world, such as new techniques, new aesthetic standards, new material and spiritual needs, and applies them into theory and practice.This paper, by analyzing MVRDV's works and its architectural conception, especially its unique understanding of city and architecture, aims to find out useful elements to enhance the studies and development of Chinese architecture. On the other hand, because the working environment of MVRDV is somewhat similar to that of Chinese counterpart, this paper also expects to offer some inspiration to the development of Chinese architecture.This paper consists of six chapters, which fall into four sections. Section one (Chapter 1) clarifies the reasons of research on architecture design. It also discusses the meaning and goal of the study, the current situation of this field and the method of the study. Section Two (Chapter 2) introduces the development of the MVRDV and the establishment of its architectural views, and on this foundation, it traces back to the inheritance and development of the architecture theories of Holland. Section three (Chapter 3 and 4) elaborates the characteristics of the main theory researches and the works of the MVRDV architecture design in details. This section is written as the main part of the article. Section four (Chapter 5 and 6) summarizes the special apocalypse and contribution of the MVRDV to the western and Chinese urban development and architecture design. Meanwhile, it points out that architects should play a more active role in the social development.
