Reverse Engineering can reduce cost of product, shorten time of consignment, increase quality of product and enhance competition of company in the market. It plays an important role in the process of product research .Key techniques were studied and discussed deeply in this paper.The workflow of reverser engineering includes three key parts: data acquisition, data processing and surface reconstruction, each part was studied in detail in this paper. Layout of measuring route was summed up according to outer surface characters of specimen. The principle about how to choose methods of data acquisition was putted forward on the base of studying and contrasting and analyzing to all kind of measuring methods. Data processing including date reposition, data remove, date filter, date smoothing was studied by giving examples. It was discussed to how to select date processing methods to different dates. The principle of date processing was putted forward. By contrasting and analyzing Bezier curve/surface, B-Spline curve/surface, NURBS curve/surface it was concluded that NURBS curve/surface process many advantages and it is predominant .In this paper making mathematics model by NURBS curve/surface the ways and steps of surface reconstruction was discussed and reconstructions of curve and surface were discussed in details. Smoothing rules and smoothing ways smoothing inspections of curve and surface were studied. Energy arithmetic was putted forward. Surface thick problem, mirror problem and error problem were solved. The chief techniques and arithmetic in reverser engineering were verified by example of moulds under the CATIA platform.It was proved that surface quality can be improved by reasonable measuring route and appropriate date acquisition and data processing by the example of motorbike. And surface smoothing can be heightened by energy arithmetic. The studies enriched the theory and method of design in the sculpting and design of industrial product and would promote the application and popularization of reverse engineering in industry design field.
