Reverse engineering (RE) is a key technology of advanced manufacturing. And surface reconstruction is the most important technology in RE. There are two prevailing surface reconstruction method. They are NURBS surface reconstruction method and triangle surface reconstruction method.This thesis makes some research work on NURBS surface reconstruction. First, introduce current research work on RE, then make a deep research on the key technology., it also promotes some new algorithms of the surface reconstruction and makes it on computer successfully. It brings forward an algorithm of detecting the boundary data from the scattered data set automatically. It also promotes an algorithm of modifying the boundary data of linear data set so as to perfect the result of surface reconstruction. For the data set that carries scanning curves information, this paper perfects the algorithm that implemented to establish the topological relations among the points, thus simplify the complex pre-processing task - data processing. The data-filtering model and the data-compacting model are integrated into the software that the research group developed.In the surface construction, an algorithm of surface interpolation is applied. The knots vectors are established via Accumulative Chord Length method so as to attain the precise surface.At the end of this paper it gives several examples of surface reconstruction.
