Water supply and drainage network is vital composition of modern municipal systems, among which the optimum design of water supply and drainage network is even more important, shall be planed and designed from the view of modern municipal systems.The paper firstly analyzed and summarized the existing researches on the optimum design of water supply and drainage network, presented their advantages and also shortages, then detailed the coding and mapping when integer coded genetic algorithm (IGA) applied to the optimum design of water supply and drainage network, and modified the IGA accordingly aimed at the peculiarity and difficulty when applied to the optimum design of water supply and drainage network. The search efficiency and constringency speed of IGA is improved by conducting mutation direction with fuzzy set.As for multi-source water supply network, the paper combined the IGA and energy equation, also intervened and conducted the mutation direction of IGA with fuzzy set and disturbing, in this way the situation that low constringency speed and bad result is bettered in some degree. As for a drainage system with no less than one pump station, the paper also offered a method that determine the location of pump stations with fuzzy set, so that the location of the pump station and the pipe diameter can be even more economical.Both examples are from cities in south Anhui, the practice indicates that the train of thoughts for improving IGA is right and of theoretical and practice value.
