Lateral deformation of rail is related to rail, fasteners and rail pad. It is one of importance factors which affects smoothness of railway and is one of importance parameters of track dynamic analysis and design. But for many years we neglect the investigation. So it is necessary to study the problem .On the basis of introducing the basic principle of rail transformation in eccentricity vertical force and lateral force and studying method at home and abroad, the paper building a model of track structure which use the finite element method and include rail and rail fasteners.Fastener parameters are importance factors which affect lateral deformation of rail. The paper collects the principle fastener. On the basis of multifactorial analysis it determines fastener parameters including initial clamping force, the elastic rigidity of rail pad. vertical stiffness of clip and lateral stiffness of fastener. The paper calculates models with different length in order to choose reasonable length in different working condition, and verifies correctness of model.Base on the model, the paper analyses the status of rail lateral deformation which is affected by wheel—rail force, fastener and sleeper space. The analysis of wheel—rail force shows that lateral displacement of rail changes with linear and lateral force and the position of the vertical force have a great effect on the lateral displacement. The analysis of fastener shows that increasing the clamping force cannot control the rail deformation efficiently and excessive increasing initial clamping force can damage fastener, lateral stiffness has effect on lateral displacement if it is less than 40kN/mm, and increasing the elastic rigidity of rail pad can control the lateral deformation efficiently but reduce elasticity of track, so we should choose this value through considering synthetically. The analysis of sleeper space shows that it is less related with lateral deformation.At last, the paper puts forward controlling method of the rail lateral deformation from produced causing and affecting factor. It includes ameliorating wheel/rail contact and reasonable designing fastener system.
