The residual load bearing capacity of the damaged warship is an important index of the life-force assessment. For a long time past, the residual strength is evaluated with the certainty method. However, in fact, not only the capability is not a fixed value because of the effects of many actual factors such as the size of hole attacked by weapon, yield stress of the material, thickness of plane, but also the loads acting on the damaged warship vary randomly in the certain sea condition. The reasonable method is calculating the damaged warship's residual survival capacity. The residual load bearing capacity is an important aspect of it. The major purpose of this thesis is finding a method to calculate the residual capacity. The method considered the uncertain factors above-mentioned. The following items are studied in this thesis:1. the stress-strain relationship is presented by applying beam-column theory, elasto-plastic assumption, plane section assump- tion, plastic hinge theory.2. The instant neutral axis of the whole section is presented by applying unsymmetrical beam bend theory.3. Based on Smith method, the Simplified Progressive Collapse Method for analyzing the damaged ship of the residual strength is presented.4. base on the probabilistic statistics, the way of determining the statistical characteristic values of the damaged hull's capability of withstanding extreme loads is investigated.5. In this thesis , some factors which may affect the damaged ship of the residual capability heavily are investigated, in which one warship is taken as example.
