Establishment of classification system such as RMR, Q-SYSTEM provide powerful technical support and rock mass quality assessment methods for and construction of underground excavation, and its practicability and reliability have been validated widely by engineers and researchers of the whole world in civil engineering. Focused mainly on modifications and extensions of wall rock classification system of tunnel engineering, Classification research of slope stability grows very slowly and have not been adapted widely in construction of ground excavation engineering. Aimed on montanic highway construction, a classification method of rock slope stability has been established. The main result is:1,Influential factors have been analyzed systematically and divided into two classes: External Factor, Internal Factor. The External Factor is forces originated mainly form excavation, blasting, earthquake, rainfall and so on. Internal Factor is shear strength of rock mass.2,Calculation method of Shear Strength of non-persistence discontinuities was presented. Based on the method, the five indexes have been discussed and quantified, including Persistence, Spacing, Attitude, Excavation and Hydrostatic pressure.3,Rock slope stability quantificational classification method (SSQC), which adapts to montanic highway, has also been established.4,The classification method have been adopted into 295 examples in Hu-Rong highway construction. The results validates that the classification method is reliable to assess rock slope of montanic highway.
