This paper deals with the existing problems in the high slope stability research, such as model establishment, evaluating indicators and methods, and advances are achieved with breakthroughs in some of these aspects. From the aspect of stability research contents of high slope, this paper analyzes their present situation at home and abroad, with emphasis on methods for model establishment, determination of evaluating indicators and approaches for stability evaluation, and discusses the defects in these aspects, common nowadays, such as difficulty in the quantization of model establishment, insufficiency in adaptation to practice and in intelligentizing evaluating methods. After that, this paper explores the development trends in high slope stability research, which are informatization and digitalization of research data, socialization of research context, unification of conditions in geology and engineering for evaluating indicators , and the intelligentizing and compounding of evaluating methods.Considering the contents of slope model, practice of slope engineering and the present research situation on models for slope and their application situation, this paper puts forward a geological engineering model for slope, and states its definition, contents and establishment methods. This paper then points out, firstly, that the geological engineering model for slope is the product of the unification of engineering and geological conditions of slope, which are complemented to and interacted with each other; secondly, that engineering conditions are vital in this model, and the stability of slope is up to the coupling degree of engineering conditions and geological conditions, which increases as the degree grows and decreases as it lowers. In addition, this paper explores the dimension division characteristics of rock structure of slope and presents seven geological models for cut rock slope, based on the dimension division theories, with statement of their respective characteristics, thus providing a new idea for research on slope model and a new approach for their quantization.By the application of the Rough Set Theory, this paper makes quantized evaluation with the geological engineering model for slope, explains its establishing method and procedure, and presents a network for the recognition of the deformation and failure modes of slope. Examples from practice are analyzed with the model, which concludes its advantages of high speed, precision, practicability and powerful quantization, exploring a new way for quantized model establishment for slope. From the aspect of the coupling action of geological and engineering conditions, this paper analyzes their influences on high slope stability. The result shows that constructional surface, lithology, slope angle and height are the most influential factors. Provided that a slope angle in a stepped slope is constant, the slope stability is very sensitive to the height/width ratios of steps, and the best design for the slope is to make the height of each step no more than one-third of the total height and the height/width ratio between 1: 0.2-0.3. Apart from that, comprehensive damage degree is presented and its function equations are established in this paper, with exploration of the conception of applying comprehensive damage degree to the evaluation of slope stability and in its treatment. With that as a basis, seven indicators for high slope stability evaluation are put forward. This paper also explores the application of Rough Set theory in the slope stability evaluation. A RS-based model for slope stability prediction is established and predictions are conducted with examples from practice, which indicates its advantages of high speed, precision and easy operatability and also its disadvantage of insufficiency in the aspect of thorough quantization. To overcome the above disadvantage, this paper further explores a new model for the thorough quantization of slope stability prediction, RS-ANN Model, based on the coupling of RS theory with Artificia...
