The thesis takes Beijing and some city as an example. We only select several representative building structure as the research object because the time character of construction. These years the urban residence gets a rapid growth, especially Beijing, which is a good representative in China. These two years the rapid growth of the construction in Beijing represents the actuality of the architecture developing. In the medium and small city the construction has rapid growth, and the outstanding problem and contrariety also are more typical, which is the universal facing problem in city developing. The study offers some suggestions to solve the issues above by analysis the material flow of the building.This thesis takes the building body as a system, we first analyze the metabolism process of the system using the metabolism theory, namely input of the building material, transformation of the materials and output of construction wastes. Then according to building structure we classify the urban building into three categories: masonry-concrete structure, frame structure, shear wall structure. We calculate the total input of the construction materials by the drawing and investigation in spot. We calculate the quantity of construction rubbish of the three structures by the investigating the materials using in spot and the waste ratio and the estimating of the workers. Then more analyze the construction according to different position. At the end we calculate the material flow per unit area of the three structures on the basis of the total areas. Then get the discrepancy of the materials expending during different structures, offer the basis for the optimizing the structure. The end we establish the metabolism model of building.We analyzed the three constructions material's environmental impact quantitatively by LCA method at the base of the analysis material flow of construction during structure. The object of assessment is the material's impact during structure. The results show that the different construction has different environmental impacts. The shear wall structure consumes more energy than masonry-concrete structure and frame structure, the environmental impact is far bigger. The frame structure is bigger than masonry-concrete structure in resources exploitation and energy consumption and environmental impact. The environmental emitting of the steel's impact is higher than other materials after analysis the different materials, resources exploitation of steel is biggest.
