This paper firstly defines the meaning of short pile based on induction, comparison and behavior analysis under vertical load with regard to problems pertinent to short piles in engineering practice of Nanning city; summarizes such calculation methods as Prandtl L, Terzaghi, Meyerhof model and Visic of ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundation, deep foundation and pile foundation under vertical load and establishes a mechanical model of short pile under vertical load based on in-depth analysis of stress characteristics of short pile, through which computing model of bearing capacity of short pile under vertical load is derived and has been verified by engineering examples.Lastly, the paper makes a simulation on short pile foundation of practical engineering by application of finite element software ANSYS, makes an in-depth study on mechanical properties of single pile of pre-cast reinforced concrete static pressure short pile under vertical load and analyzes the main factors that impact upon vertical load bearing capacity and displacement of single pile—pile length, pile diameter, vertical load and sectional area of pile shaft etc., among which, the pile length attaches relative small influence while sectional area poses a great impact on vertical bearing-capacity of short pile. Within the conceptual category of short pile, the elongation of pile length will lead to increase of vertical bearing capacity, however, which of short pile is influenced weakly; when the pile length is not variable, the bigger the sectional area of pile is, the bigger is its bearing capacity, i. e., the length-diameter ratio of pile influences its bearing capacity. A further analysis of properties of mechanical model of short pile under vertical load is made based on actual. measured static load experimental results as well as simulation that is performed in stratified soil and is therefore close to actual engineering condition.
