Ship propulsion shafting is a complicated flexible system with multi-masses, whose function is mainly as follows: transferring the power generated by main engine to drive the propeller, so the thrust is born for ship moving. It's obviously that the shafting is suffering from multi-loads complicated and variable in the working process of main engine. Thus, the shafting vibration has a great important effect on the running of shafting for long and stable.Having referring to plenty of information, this paper is taking ship propulsion shafting as researched object, gives a brief summary about the principles and method for research and application of torsional vibration, and presents some resolutions about a few key points of torsional vibration. The main work are including:1) Building the universal model for torsional vibration of ship propulsion shafting, and researching the common methods for free and forced vibration. According to the software engineering, developing a software for torsional vibration calculation of shafting, which is based on VB.net, and validating the correction of the model and the algorithm by comparing the results with the test one;2) Researching on some key points of the torsional vibration, which are mainly including: how to calculate the harmonic coefficient by a newly method called Simulating the Indicated Diagram, one or more cylinder misfiring and load-unbalancing, systems with branches, non-linear problems, axial coupled torsional vibration, etc, and giving pieces of solutions for software design by a few examples;3) The theory of FEM(Finite Element Method) is also another important part. This paper is studying the basic principle and model theory, building the FEM model for torsional vibration, and making analysis and calculation by the MSC.Patran/Nastran, which validates the model for a further step.At last, this paper presents a summarize about the achievement and problems, and gives pieces of advisement for the future work.
