Since 1980s, the construction of high-grade highway has developed rapidly in our country. Asphalt pavement has become the main pavement structure of the high-grade highways, because of its good mechanical strength, steady driving, low noise, easy mechanized construction and so on. However, as a result of the heavy axle load and traffic, the asphalt pavement performance of high-grade highway drops year by year, meanwhile, the distresses such as cracking, pothole, rutting appear on some sections of the pavement, which affected the economic efficiency of high-grade highway seriously. Therefore, the high-grade highway asphalt pavement maintenance has attracted the attention of highway workers more and more.Based on summering and analyzing the relevant stipulation about data collection of asphalt pavement in different present standards of China, the method, instrumental equipment and collection frequency on high-grade highway asphalt pavement are recommended. Besides, we have found that pothole, lateral cracking, and rutting are the main distresses, through investigating some high-grade highway asphalt pavement in Yangzhou and Taizhou and some experimental research in-door. Furthermore, this paper has analyzed the cause and the mechanism of the three main distresses with emphasis, and proposed the relevant maintenance technology.Combining with the main distresses on high-grade highway asphalt pavement through our investigations, a new comprehensive index evaluating system about mechanical performance maintenance of high-grade highway asphalt pavement has been founded, which increases a new parameter- PRI , comparing to the present evaluation system. Meanwhile, a new evaluating model with geometric mean to calculate PQI has been established, weighing of each index is determined by the method of the integration of subjectivity and objectivity. The model proves feasible through calculating ten groups of data by actual measurement.This paper has established a matter-element model for predicting the high-grade highway asphalt pavement performance, by studying matter-element models for earthquake prediction and water quality prediction. And then, the model proves feasible through calculating data by actual measurement. Confronting the condition of being the shortage of maintenance fund, operation research is used to realize the allocation optimization with single and compound targets respectively in this paper. So, the limited resources can be distributed and applied reasonably with the actual needs met maximatily and benefit attained mostly.Through analyzing economic benefit of the actual project by engineering economic method, combining with research results at home and abroad, the paper has finally emphasized the importance and necessity of preventive maintenance of high-grade highway asphalt pavement.The research results of this paper has enriched the theory of high-grade highway asphalt pavement maintenance decision making, and provided high-grade highway maintenance management with references.
