The power transformer is one of the most important equipments in the power transmission and distribution network, guarantee the safe operation of the electrical power system. As the design and manufacture of power transformers of various aspects such as quality and operational reasons, accidents and breakdowns occur and play a serious impact on the safe operation of power grids.Firstly, this paper analyzes the composition of the transformer, the conventional method of on-line monitoring, and fault operating characteristics and presents the dissolved gases analysis (DGA). Secondly, due to the internal power transformer failures are often caused by a fault or multiple faults weak signal early signs of the potential multi-so impaired trigger sudden failure so presents the BP algorithm based on the DGA feature result and optimization algorithm. And expert system integration and BP network system to form ESBP. Meanwhile the rough set into the knowledge base of the formation, greatly boosted the expert system fault diagnosis. Finally, VB final adoption of the system procedures programming, the on-line system for monitoring and fault diagnosis data management module, diagnostic information management modules, and diagnostic reasoning module to provide users with a concise, clear, friendly interface and the application has good prospects.
