The theme of this article is focusing on the application, current and future progress in research area of magnetic polyoxometalates. The tentative summarization on the structural effects of magnetic properties of these materials is implemented. Two examples of magnetic polyoxometalates possessing distinctive structural features are isolated and their magnetic behaviors are discussed in the paper.Scientific research interest in magnetic materials is not only the job of physical scientist but also chemists and material scientists nowadays. Amazingly, rational control of magnetic properties of these materials by means of the design of their structures are realized by chemists, and it soon becomes a promising research goal to obtain expected magnetic compounds.Polyoxometalates, know as a class of traditional functional molecular units, have been attracting special research interest due to their significant applications in given fields and distinctive topological structures. Recently, integration of multiple chemical components in to a single structure may realized materials with'value-adding'properties, and it is considered as either rational or promising designing strategies in isolation of new functional materials. Therefore, integration of polyoxometalate units into magnetic framework structures may result in multifunctional materials with value-adding properties. Although, magnetic polyoxometalates have been documented in literatures, systematic research on the relation of structures and magnetic behaviors is still absent. We are trying to get insight into such a research goal to achieve the successful exploration of the rules, and, if possible, to synthesize magnetic polyoxometalates based on the rules to further demonstration. In this paper, a summarization of the literature and experimental details are recorded.
