Nonlinear FEM have developed rapidly because of many advantages of itself; however, there are still many problems when applying it in deep anti-sliding stability analysis of gravity dam, which need to be further studied.Based on reviewing of methods of deep anti-sliding analysis home and abroad, the current problems of these methods were pointed out and the advantages of FEM were also summarized. Problems of the application of nonlinear FEM in deep anti-sliding analysis were provided and discussed, based on which the paper advised an analyzing principle. The main studies and achievements are as follows:(1) Discuss the form and application of several kinds of yield criteria; get a useful result from analyzing a classical example: yield criterion affects results so significantly that it must be carefully chosen. Mohr-Coulomb equivalent area circle yield criterion is advised to be chosen in deep anti-sliding analysis.(2) It is found that it's unreasonable to modify c andφwithout modify E andνthe sametime in traditional strength-reduction method. The formula of different yield criterion with corresponding adjustment of Eνwere deduced. It is found that the plastic areas when modifying corresponding parameter E andνare generally smaller than that of not modified.(3) Study safety criterion, through an example the paper analyse the effect to safety ratio of different safety criteria. And it is advised that many kinds of safety criterion should be considered at the same time in the analysis of deep anti-slide problem.(4) Study different treatments of uplift pressure in simulation of the gravity dam and propose a relative reasonable form.(5) Based on the above results and conclusion, numerical simulation of Xiangjia dam was carried out by using ANSYS and ABAQUS. The deep anti-sliding problems of five working conditions of two monoliths of the dam were calculated, and get many useful recognination.
