The stability of the slope of a variety of calculation methods, finite element calculation can not need assume sliding surface and wide application. There is the strength reduction and gravity increase. In recent years, both for calculating effective method of slope safety factor. The strength reduction precision earlier, the calculation accuracy is widely recognized. Compared with strength reduction, gravity increase method defects of theory Based on examples of soil slopes and rock slopes safety factor with the two finite element methods. The result of strength reduction method lower than the gravity increase method. For soil slope, the larger difference between two results when slopes are lower or the easy grade of side slope, otherwise the result are similar. Through the analysis of the results can be obtained that if the grade of side slope below1: 1.5, gravity increase method is not recommended for severe increase, and when the slope than 1.5, this method can be calculated. In rock slope, the numerical example shows that the method of finite element calculation results of gravity increase method and are basically the same. And the rock slope can be calculated by using this method. Two projects finite element method calculation with gravity increase method. The results shows that :the second project slope with bad stability, need slope excavation with the anchor bolt support; and the first project slope with good stability, the slope don't need protection.
