| With highway increasing steadily, the soft ground, has widelydistributed in coastal area. Due to the low shear strength and highcompressibility of the soft soil, if the settlement of soft ground could notbe calculated accurately, it will bring some difficulties to design andconstruction of the soft ground.Based on former researchers' work, the paper researched the modelsand methods to embankment settlement predication through the fieldexperiment and theoretical analysis. The main works of this paper arefollows:1. Based on former researches' work, the main physical mechanicsperformance of soft ground were analyzed, the main break form andbreak mechanism of soft ground were also discussed.2. Based on the existing settlement calculation and predicationmethod, to Guangzhou nansha region, the paper carried a calculation onindex number curve method and gray theories method and obtained idealestimate results. The above estimate method is proved to have certainadaptability in Guangzhou nansha region.3. Non-equal interval GM(1,1) model for forecasting embankmentsettlement is set up by the building principle of grey theory model. Atheory using intercalary value method and spline curve to transformnon-equal interval sequencing were put forward by means of makingequal interval to data sequence with no rule.4. A soft base embankment settlement forecasing program wasdeveloped with Matlab, and differential fitting was made, and then asettlement development tendency which draws near to the optimaltendency could be obtained by analysing and contrasting settlementcurves. Thereby, the embankment settlement on soft ground can beforecasted more exactly. Take wanhuan west road and longxue road inGuangzhou nansha region as examples, the embankment settlementforecasing program obtained satisfactory result. According to the latestdata of the field, the embankment settlement forecasing program canrenew and perfect predicate model immediately, in order to get more accurate forecaste to embankment settlement.
