The analysis method of stability of tailings dam during earthquake has continued to use the method of slope stability during earthquake. The problem of slope stability analysis is an important research problem in the Geotechnical Engineering, and the problem of slope stability during the earthquake is always one of geotechnical engineering research difficulty. Some methods of slope stability during earthquake was proposed in domestic and foreign. Such as Newmark slide analysis method, dynamic finite element method and distortion analytic method based on attenuation theory and flowing destruction analytic and so on. In this paper used the pseudo-static method based on the theory of the earthquake inertia buckling and limit equilibrium method to the analysis tailings dam earthquake stability.The total stress method and the effective stress method belong to the pseudo-static method. The earthquake total stress shearing strength method is used seismic total stress shearing strength index in pseudo-static method. When based on the relationship of degree of anti-liquefaction and ratio of pore-water pressure, and used simplification formula of excess pore pressure to consider the excess pore pressure, the pseudo-static method is the method of effective shearing strength index. Carried on the earthquake stable in view of the use above two methods to the tailings dam analysis, in this paper doing below the prime task:(1) Summarizing the domestic and foreign present research situation of tailings dam, and explaining the research significance of the tailings dam earthquake stability analysis method.(2) Programming the total stress method and the effective stress method, and validating the program reliability.(3) Applying two methods to the earthquake stability contrast analysis to the Gong Chang Ling tailings dam. Under the different operating mode, two methods were used to analyze the tailings dam stability during the earthquake. Through the contrast analysis, summarizes two method respective characteristics.(4) Applying the method of seismic total stress shearing strength index to analyze the Matou power plant ash dam, provided the reference for the dam earthquake resistance design, studied the project measure of enhancement to the ash dam stability, and proposed the condition of dam stability during the earthquake.
