On the base of orifice meter which has a high pressure lose and narrow range, thepaper aim at a low pressure lose and wide range of difference pressure flow meter.Using CFD numerical simulation technology base on the RNG k-εturbulent modeland SIMPLE scheme, three types of streamline orifices were firstly designed. Then,each orifice was performed 3-Dimensions numerical simulations. So, using thenumerical optimization method, we finally come to a type of protruding streamlineorifice meter which has lower pressure lose and non-active discharge coefficient.In order to check out the effectivity and accuracy of the numerical simulationresults and to demarcate the discharge coefficient of the new type of streamline orificemeter, we designed a test-bed which has high precision flow meter device andpressure transducers. The test-bed used ultrasonic flow meter to measure the volumeflow and used three different ranges of high precision pressure transducers to measurethe difference pressure between the both sides of streamline orifices. After times ofexperiments, we work out the discharge coefficient of the new type of streamlineorifice meter.The numerical simulations and experimental data coincide well. This shows thatit's feasible and effective to design and optimize the flow meter device by CFDnumerical simulation. The new type of streamline orifice meter designed in the paperhas a wider range, better discharge coefficient and lower pressure lose, which can beapplied to engineering practice.
