Studies On Performance-based Seismic Design Method For Base-isolated Structure

This paper combines the merits of base isolation technique with the philosophy ofperformance-based seismic design, the feasibility of utilizing performance-basedseismic design methods and the performance objectives evaluation for base isolatedstructures is discussed based on theoretical and structural model analysis. The mainresearch contents are as follow:1. Based on the results of engineering seismic research and seismic fortificationstandards, the performance levels and performance objectives of base isolatedstructures are classified, furthermore story drift and story acceleration which used asthe controlled indexes for evaluating the performance of base isolation structure aregiven separately.2. An displacement-based performance controlled and evaluated method forbased isolation structure is proposed based on a practical multiple-story base isolatedstructure, the story drift is used as the displacement-controlled parameter and theADRS curves of base isolation structure are given. Studies indicate that the design ofbase isolated structure based on multiple performance objectives can accomplished byutilizing the displacement-controlled parameter established above.3. The story acceleration is used as controlled parameter to investigate theacceleration characteristics of base isolated structure under various design parametersof ground motion, furthermore the acceleration-based performance controlled andevaluated method for base isolated structure is proposed. Studies show that the designof base isolated structure based on multiple performance objectives can alsoaccomplished by utilizing the acceleration-controlled parameter.4. Based on the research results above, a practical base isolated structure isanalyzing to evaluate its structural performances which can provide the theoreticaland technique supports for the design of the structure.
