In this paper, the Performance-Based design method has been proposed to be used in design of the structure isolated by friction pendulum system. Based on the research of Performance-Based design method and the base-isolated structure, according to the Code for seismic design of buildings design requirements, the performance levels, fortification goals and design performance of the structure isolated by friction pendulum system are suggested. The seismic performance of the base-isolated structure is assessed by Capacity Spectrum Method. The main work and achievements of this article are as follows:1. The seismic performance of the structure isolated by friction pendulum system has been studied, the performance levels, fortification goals and design performance of the base-isolated structure have been proposed.2. The Time History analysis and Pushover analysis of the structure isolated by friction pendulum system have been carried out in SAP2000, the results show that the results of Time History Analysis and Pushover Analysis have some differences, but the difference is about 20%or less, and as the increase of the seismic intensity, the difference decreases.3. The elastic response spectrum of the Code for seismic design of buildings has been translated into a standard elastic demand spectrum, according to the hysteretic behavior of the friction pendulum bearing, the equivalent damping ratio of the bearing and the structure are calculated. In order to get the elastic-plastic demand spectra of the structure isolated by friction pendulum system, the standard elastic demand spectra has been reduced by the equivalent damping ratio of the base-isolated structure.4. The Capacity Spectrum Method and the Time History Analysis have been applied to evaluate the seismic performance of a 7 story structure isolated by friction pendulum system, it shows that there are large difference between the results of the two methods under the frequent earthquake action, but the results are in agreement under the fortification earthquake action and the rare earthquake action, the structural performance fulfilled the appropriate target of the seismic performance.
