In order to make research of roll movement of automotive and improvement of automotive side tumbling stability by active suspension, the dynamic models of automotive roll movement and vibration analysis for the models based on virtual prototyping technology are presented in this paper. Analysis on the relationship of active suspension and automotive side tumbling stability is given. The contributions at this study are as following:1.Based on the presentation of two automotive roll movement models, one rigid automotive roll movement model and the other considering the effect of suspension system, ways to calculate the maximum static stable roll angle of automotive are gained. It is approved that the roll movement model including effect of suspension system is more accurate than rigid roll movement model by calculating the maximum static stable roll angle of a certain automotive.2.By the aid of the well-known software ADAMS, the nonlinear mathematic model of automotive transient roll movement is solved. An insight into the relationship of roll angle and parameters of suspension is gained based on simulation.3.Vibration characteristics of a automotive model including suspension, tire and steering system are determined by mode test in ADAMS/Vibration. Analysis on the relationship of parameters of suspension and roll vibration is made.4.Two types of active suspension are developed, one based on PID control strategy developed in ADAMS/CONTROL, and the other based on fuzzy control strategy developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulations of automotive models including these active suspensions are conducted. Results show that active suspensions greatly enhance the stability of automotive.
