Generally, inside or on the surface of the engineering materials exists minor natural fault. Under the repeated influence as to load,temperature change and acid-base corrosion, the minor crack will extend continuously and produce micro crack and macro crack gradually, which will weaken and finally destruct the mechanical perfrmance of component and structure. Damage mechanics is the subject concerned with property of material containing damage medium and the mechanical process during the change of damage developing destruction. Solid mechanics describes the mechanical performance of nondestructive material in detail, but the working process of component and structure is attended by unceasing damage. So during the work on health evaluation of bridge operation and structure safe life prediction, it's essential to explain the material damage mechanism,build the equation of component damge evolution,calculate the damage degree definitely and work out methods to measure damage. The subject makes a special study on the primary component of bridge, especially on the fatigue damage of concrete and the steel stucture by every damage phase. Quite accurately track out various parameters needed by technical analysis and calculation from key structure region of real bridge. Build real-time monitoring system of bridge to timely learn the actual working status of bridge and then make a judgement. Thus effective service can be provided for the normal operation and health condition of bridge.
