In this paper, all kinds of pressure actions on the directly buried heating pipe network are analyzed. The deformation-controlled action between pipe and soil is introduced. The stress strain relationship on the straight pipe line is deduced, and various failure modes and the restrictive condition are analyzed. The mechanical status of totally restrained pipe and partly restrained pipe is studied. A pipe network design method on the basis of stability analysis is established.By comparing two strength theories, which are transform energy and max shear stress, the latter is more suitable to pipe strength analysis. The max shear stress theory is used pipe network design strength checking, and the strength checking formula is deduced.Finally, on the basis of the theories that have been deduced in this paper, a software of line pipe design is newly developed by using visual basic 6.0. The stretching range of the pipe, and the stress of pipe and fixed point could be computed by this software, so part of the designers' work could be saved.
