Multistory dwelling brick buildings is one of the most popular structured types in city and country areas in China. In order to evaluate earthquake safety of this kind of structure, to estimate earthquake losses in the future and to find practical Earthquake Countermeasures, the studies on vulnerability and reliability be conducted. This kind of research work on multi-storey brick buildings with high personnel density is done in this thesis.Vulnerability and reliability analysis of multistory dwelling brick buildings designed using code for seismic design of buildings (GB50011-2001) and code for design of masonry structures (GB50003-2001) is given, then comparison between the analysis results and those of the buildings designed using former coders given by references [2]&[27] is conducted. The difference in multi-storey brick buildings design among codes at various periods, including code for seismic design of buildings (GB50011-2001&GBJ11-89) and code for design of masonry structures (GB50003-2001 & GBJ3-88) is summaried. The analysis method for vulnerability and reliability evaluation is introduced. 17 typical multistory dwelling brick models whose storey number distributed from 3~8 respectively are designed using current codes. Vulnerability and reliability analysis results are calculated using the method mentioned above. The results are compared with those of references [2]&[27] by considering the difference among codes of two generations. Only vulnerability and reliability of multistory dwelling brick buildings is studied in the thesis. Other structure categories might be studied using this method, in the future.
