The fillers in the friction material have great influences on mechanical, physical and friction properties of the friction product, including friction and wear properties, rigidity, specific gravity, porosity, appearance of products, braking noise, and product cost, etc.Since the past two decades, the researches of the friction material have been emplacing on the modification of resin and substitutes of the asbestos fibers, and the research of fillers less reported. Usually, people only rely on some experiences to choose fillers, so friction material can't obtain the excellent performance. The present works are to optimize filler constitutes to improve the properties of friction material, based on the experimental results of friction coefficient, wear rate and impact strength of vermiculite barite, kyanite, feldspar and porous iron powder. Main researches of this paper are as following:1,The Fillers' effects on properties of friction materialFriction materials manufactured by dry process are composed of each filler (79%, 82%, 85%) and phenolic resin modified with NBR. This research analyzed the selected five fillers' effect on friction and wear properties and impact strength of friction material under the different content and temperature. And based on the above results, we compared and studied the differences in five fillers' affect on friction materials.2,Optimization design of filler's formulaOn the assumption that no interact between fillers and linear superposition of filler's contribution on friction materials, set up mathematical model of filler formula optimization of friction coefficient stability and wear rate minimum, and then solve optimization value of formula. The test result showed that optimizing method is feasible and offer an original method for fillers' formula optimization in friction materials.
